Après une décennie en tant que gestionnaires de ferme prospères, ils ont décidé qu'ils aimeraient gérer leur propre ferme avicole et ont acheté 25 acres de terrain non développé sur le chemin Windsor à Vineyard NSW pour démarrer leur nouvelle entreprise. Voyageant chaque week-end de Wentworthville à leur nouvelle propriété, ils ont travaillé sans relâche à défricher des buissons et des arbres denses pour préparer leur nouveau site d'accueil. En 1965, ils ont déménagé à Vineyard avec leurs trois enfants pour s'installer dans leur toute nouvelle maison en brique. Peu de temps après s'être installés, ils ont commencé à planifier leur ferme avicole. Un par un, 13 grands poulaillers ont été construits. Alex et Pat ont lancé une nouvelle industrie et sont devenus les pionniers de l'élevage de « poulettes commencées » en élevant des poulets d'un jour jusqu'au point de ponte pour de grands aviculteurs commerciaux situés dans diverses régions de la Nouvelle-Galles du Sud. Tout en gérant activement la plus grande ferme de poulettes d'Australie, Alex et Pat possédaient et exploitaient également des chenils Pat-A-Lex. Pendant de nombreuses années, ils ont élevé et montré des bergers allemands et des corgis de race pure produisant des chiots champions de, pour n'en nommer que quelques-uns, les taureaux champions Braecoola Caesar, Patalex Chieftain et la chienne championne Diosma Roxanne. Ils ont voyagé dans de nombreuses expositions canines et ont reçu des centaines de récompenses pour leurs chiens champions. Alex et Pat sont devenus bien connus et respectés pour leur travail continu dans l'industrie de la volaille et après 25 ans d'élevage de poulettes, ils ont décidé de convertir leur ferme avicole en cage en une ferme d'œufs en plein air. Ils ont retiré toutes les cages de leurs hangars permettant à leurs chooks de paître à l'air libre. Alex et Pat ont trois enfants, sept petits-enfants et 13 arrière-petits-enfants, tous vivant dans le district de Hawkesbury. Les activités agricoles et les intérêts variés d'Alex et Pat travaillent toujours main dans la main et ont fait d'eux le duo à succès auquel de nombreuses personnes reviennent pour acheter des poulets, des chooks, de la nourriture, des graines et des fournitures pour oiseaux, sans parler des conseils d'experts d'Alex quand ils en ont besoin. FOOTNOTE Sadly, at the age of 90, Alex was diagnosed with bowel cancer but he battled on and continued working on his farm until three weeks before he succumbed to the horrible disease on 15th June 2020, one week after his 91st birthday. Alex was a young 91 year old, he loved his work and never missed a beat. Alex is sadly missed by his wife Pat, their family, friends and their loyal customers.
